It refers to DeFi tokens with high correlation (and often higher volatility) compared to ETH. When ETH runs, these tokens tend to outperform.

Why? Because they’re leveraged bets on the Ethereum economy — think of it like buying call options instead of stock.

ETH is starting to show real strength again, fueled by ETF momentum, staking growth, and market-wide rotation from memecoins to “real” fundamentals. This is where DeFi beta comes in.

Ethereum Staking Hits Record High With Nearly $90 Billion Locked

The amount of staked ETH has hit a new all-time high, suggesting growing long-term confidence in Ethereum.

As of this week, over 34.6 million Ether (ETH) – worth nearly $90 billion – is locked into Ethereum’s Proof-of-Stake (PoS) system, according to data from BeaconChain. That represents nearly 28% of the entire ETH supply, which currently stands at around 120.72 million.
