NEAR Protocol (NEAR) is a smart contract platform that utilizes a Thresholded Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus algorithm to execute transactions and aims to provide foundational infrastructure for decentralized applications, AI-powered systems, and cross-chain interoperability.
The NEAR ecosystem is expanding chain abstraction across many blockchains and ecosystems, with the goal of abstracting the blockchain away from the end user and developer experience.
Relative to BTC , which saw its market caps grow ~20.00% YoY, – Near's market cap declined ~60% YoY to ~$3.15 billion from ~$6.1 billion.
This drop indicates a weaker position within the broader crypto market.
Is NEAR a good opportunity? Here’s our view:
What we like
✅ NEAR experienced growth in network usage, with daily active addresses increasing ~80% YoY to ~3.55 million.
✅ Several applications already utilize Chain Signatures on NEAR's mainnet
✅ NEAR’s User-Owned AI initiative is a leader in integrating artificial intelligence with blockchain technology

❌ Key metrics such as daily transactions and DEX volumes declined significantly in the last 365 days.
❌ NEAR's DeFi TVL ended Q4 2024 at ~$240.16 million, reflecting a ~4.48% decrease from the previous quarter
❌ Underperformed BTC in the last 365, 90 and 30 days

BlackRock CEO Says US Dollar is at Risk of Losing Reserve Status to Bitcoin
Larry Fink warned that the U.S. dollar’s world reserve currency status is not guaranteed to last forever and could lose that position to digital assets like bitcoin.
The BlackRock CEO also suggested tokenization can “revolutionize investing” — enabling every stock, bond and fund to benefit from blockchain technology.
